One day, while they were sitting on the couch watching TV, James turned to Emily and said, "We need to talk."
Emily's heart sank. She had been dreading this conversation. "What about?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Us," James replied. "I feel like we've been drifting apart lately. We're stuck in this apartment together, but we hardly spend any time together anymore."
Emily felt a pang of guilt. It was true that they had been spending less time together than usual. She had been so focused on work that she had forgotten to make time for her relationship. "I'm sorry," she said, reaching for James's hand. "You're right. We need to do something about this."
